Congratulations to French Buffet door prize winner Norm Scott, who will enjoy free food and drink for our next one (TBA).

The AMCC was extremely pleased to host 8 of the top teams in the Province 8-10 Jan 2016 as they participated in the Manitoba Curling Tour Ladies Open spiel. The very strong field used the opportunity to prepare for the Provincial Scotties, win some cash and earn MCT points.

Based on Round Robin win/loss records the top 4 teams Kim Link, Joelle Brown, Janet Harvey and Darcy Robertson advanced to the Championship Playoff (shootout results were used to break ties) while Kerri Einarson, Michelle Montford, Shannon Birchard and Barb Spencer were relegated to the Consolation Playoff. Darcy Robertson and Kim Link won their respective semi final matches advancing to the final game where Darcy prevailed in an extra end. Robertson earned $1,300 while Link picked up $950 for second place with semi finalists Harvey/Brown receiving $750 each. Montford and Birchard split the Consolation $250.

Of note: 4 of the top 5 seeds for the Provincial Scotties were in the field (Einarson #2, Spencer #3, Montford #4 and Robertson #5). We wish all of these teams great curling in Beausejour with special emphasis on club members (Spencer, Montford and Brown).

The competitors and numerous spectators spoke very highly of all aspects regarding our great facility and agreed that the competition should do them in good stead starting the middle of next week. Special thanks to the hardworking staff, volunteers and participants for their untiring efforts in the success of this high level event. Also appreciation to those leagues, who so willing adjusted their draw times, in order to meet the commitments of the MCT Ladies Open.

Once again the AMCC Men’s League was able to contribute to the Christmas Cheer Board. A total contribution in the amount of $292.60 was given to Jim Bender on Thu Dec 28th.

The amount represents $268.50 raised through the Men’s League 50/50 draws during December. The balance of $24.10 was loose change dropped in the Christmas Cheer Board jar at the bar.

Jim expressed appreciation to the AMCC Men’s Leagues for their contribution and hoped they would be able to continue in future.

Thanks to all and happy New Year!

The AMCC was extremely pleased to host the 18 team Masters Winnipeg Regional Qualfiers 15-17 Dec 2015. Following 3 days of intense competition the teams of Dave Johannson (Thistle CC), defending Canadian Champions Ron Westcott (Fort Rouge CC), Doug Harrison (Heather CC) and Wayne Johnson (AMCC) earned berths in the Provincial Championships hosted by the Thistle Curling Club 10-14 Mar 2016. All of these teams will be great representatives of the Winnipeg Region and could quite easily win the Provincial Championship moving on to represent Manitoba at the National Championship in Truro NS.

Special thanks to Matt and his hard working ice crew for providing a great curling surface, Cindy and the always friendly bar staff for providing liquid refreshment and Vance for ensuring full stomachs at a reasonable cost. In keeping with the Club's voluntary spirit, George Wildeman, Sue Maxwell and Dorothy Hollins served as Event Assistants ensuring the timely completion of the many administrative functions.

Drop by the Thistle Curling Club 10-14 Mar 2016 and cheer on the Winnipeg Region teams (particularly Wayne, Kelly, Al and Henry from our great club).

For the second year in a row, the AMCC team of Michelle Montford, Lisa DeRiviere, Sara Van Walleghem and Sarah Neufeld (pictured below) captured the MCT Championship held in Dauphin by virtue of a very narrow defeat over club mate Joelle Brown and her team (Allyssa Calvert, Erika Sigurdson and Lindsay Baldock). In addition to winning some cash, both teams also earned berths in the Provincial Scotties Tournament of Hearts where they will be joined by the Barb Spencer team also from the AMCC. Special mention to Beth Peterson (Fort Rouge / AMCC) for a very respectable semi final finish in spite of playing the entire event with only three curlers.

Team Montford
Montford, Brown and Spencer have confirmed their entry in the MCT Ladies Open January 7-10, 2016 at the AMCC. They will be joined by other high level teams as they attempt to win some cash and MCT / CTRS points while preparing for the Provincial Scotties. Club members, guests, and friends of curling are strongly encouraged to take in the action (draw TBA).

Rounding out the success of our Associate Member teams, Dennis Bohn and his AMCC squad earned a berth in the Viterra Men's Provincial Championship a result of their final MCT ranking position.

The Board of Directors and all members of the AMCC are extremely proud of the success enjoyed by these teams and wish them continued good curling in the season ahead.
